This course will discuss the numerous diseases of the eye and orbit that can lead to a
prosthetic eye, a scleral shell, or other prosthetic restorations. The categories of eye disease
presented will include malignancies, infections, systemic disorders, and congenital anomalies.
Prior to the ocularist seeing these patients, they often involve treatments and surgery by the
ophthalmologist. An understanding of the journey the patient has traveled to need ocular
prosthetic care will aid the ocularist in providing the best care for the patient.
